What do I do now?
If you find yourself alone and unprepared to be self-supporting due to divorce, death of a
partner or estrangement, or because you have never had significant employment
outside of the home or because you have worked in a family business, Hotline’s
Displaced Homemaker Program may have some options for you to explore.
For the qualified individual, Hotline’s Displaced Homemaker Program offers job
counseling, training and placement. Developing employment opportunities may
include exploring interests and aptitudes, learning basic employment skills such
as effectively filling out an application or developing a resume. Education and
training opportunities are also options to consider whether it is an on the job
training situation or enrolling in a college program. Personal skills needed to
be self supporting may include learning to make and live within a budget,
seeking community programs and services that fit your needs, participating in
group support and/or personal counseling. In some cases, medical considerations
may be addressed through application for vocational rehabilitation or even
application for disability.
If you or someone you know would like more information on Hotline’s Displaced
Homemaker Program, please call 473-5121 and ask for Temple Heggie.
