The Outer Banks Hotline will be hosting Domestic Violence Training on September 7th and 8th, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Nags Head Fire Station. The same presentation will be given on both days. This training will be led by Sargent John Guard of the Pitt County Sherriff’s Office. Topics that will be covered will be; what is hearsay, what are the hearsay exceptions, Post Crawford response, victim not in court, evidence to collect, jail calls, batterers, pretrial release, intimidating witnesses, perjury and extortion. The Outer Banks Hotline hosted a dedication ceremony for its former Executive Director, Lynn Bryant, who died in February 2017. The main office building was dedicated in her honor and named The Lynn Bryant Crisis Center. The new sign was revealed by her successor, Michael Lewis, and staff member Karen Sawin during the ceremony. It was a beautiful ceremony filled with happy memories of Lynn. Buddy Bench presentation to Manteo Elementary School. Kids decorated the benches during this years Artrageous Event at the new Dowdy Park in Nags Head. The benches will be placed on the playgrounds of each elementary school to help promote kindness and upstanding behavior. Zenith Bank sponsored the OB Hotline’s LADIES NIGHT on March 31st of 2017 held at the Dare County Arts Council and It was a blast! Fay Edwards instructed everyone in their Georgia O’Keeffe masterpiece and Chrissy Teachout shared several original poems that were extremely moving and powerful. On May 19th, the OB Hotline will be holding a Personal Safety Empowerment Workshop. The Empowerment Workshop will focus on how women can develop a sense of empowerment through personal safety. Information presented in this workshop will cover safety issues that are significant to women in our community. Participants in this workshop will learn ways to enhance their personal safety through the use of personal safety devices, situational awareness, and a variety of self-defense techniques. Outer Banks Hotline had a busy weekend! We were able to spend time at two great events on September 10th. Walk Against Addiction was held at First Flight High School and OBX PrideFest was hosted by The First Colony Inn. Had the opportunity to show support and meet some really awesome folks!
